Lulu Levan Biography

As well as being a professional DJ, Lulu is also an academic and journalist. She has a PhD in Sociology and has written for a range of publications, from Jockey Slut and The Face through to The Independent and The New Statesman. Her academic work is published through Routledge and Palgrave Macmillan. However, music has always been a central passion for Lulu, and a background in the music industry –not just writing about music but managing artists, record labels and promoting events – has helped shape Lulu’s career as a DJ.

Lulu has a playful, credible and creative ear for tunes. She also has a natural flair for reading a crowd and filling a dance-floor. Lulu’s musical repertoire is fun, varied and eclectic – boasting disco, nu-disco, classic house, 80s electro, soul, funk, reggae, old school hip hop and R&B.

Recommendations

Dom Chung (Head of Music UK & Europe, Soho House): “Lulu has been an amazing asset for The Ned, both through her professional and friendly approach and her wide ranging knowledge and ability to work a flexible room at all times.”

Joanne Blacker (Facebook events): “Thank you SO much for last night Lulu. You hit the perfect tone, were a breeze to work with and I can’t wait to collaborate again soon.”

Miranda Sawyer (broadcaster, author, and journalist): “Lulu Le Vay is my go-to DJ for any event, personal or professional. She has impeccable taste in music, always bringing to a party what it needs, whether that’s a full-on, arms-in-the-air, oh-my-God-this-is-a-proper-party danceathon or happy mellow vibes. She also has an unstinting good humour, who understands what’s needed from an event and is always a pleasure to deal with.”

Clinton Barry (Assistant Manager, The Groucho): “Lulu’s beats always get the crowd going! I’ve used her in different venues and always find my guests with their hands-in-the-air! Can’t wait to be dancing again to Lulu’s tunes at The Groucho!”

Sav Remzi (booker for House of St Barnabas, Meantime Brewery, Goodwood Festival of Speed, On Blackheath): I have worked with Lulu for many years… She is highly reliable, charismatic and always delivers where it matters. She reads the audience perfectly every time, regardless of the event. For a guaranteed success, audience engagement and a very happy client, Lulu is my first choice.”

Steve Beale (booker Forge & Co.): “Lulu is a DJ who can get the crowd dancing with her own unique sound. She entertains across the board – getting the younger crowd excited and the older heads nodding along – while never having to drop those overly obvious tracks. She provides her gigs with a bunch of support through her own social media channels plus is always on time – and sober!”

Paul Wilson (40th birthday booking): “Lulu played at a birthday party for my girlfriend and she absolutely nailed it. She was in contact with me weeks before to make sure she got it right. The crowd had teenagers, hardened clubbers and even a lady in a wheelchair and everyone was on the dancefloor – including Lulu. She is first class, dedicated to her craft, good fun and is committed to the crowd enjoying themselves rather than self indulgence. Which you sure can’t say for every DJ. If you book her, you’ll be glad you did.”

Nils Landen (booker for H&M): “I hired Lulu on behalf of H&M as a resident DJ at their Oxford Circus flagship store in London. She is phenomenal at creating a nice in-store musical vibe while being a reliable and professional collaborator.”
